Composition workshop
Symmetry

when a scene displays a character or object in a way that mirrors 2 sides of the scene, Symmetry can be useful as a visual marker of important events in the narrative of a film, emphasising the shots that need to be given attention.

depth of field

depth of field that you select when taking an image will drastically impact impact the composition of an imagine. it can isolate a subject from its background and foreground (when using a shallow depth of field) or it can put the same subject in context by revealing its surrounding with a larger depth of field.
Framing

framing is a composition that used to keep the audience focused of something in a frame, the frame is a prop or apart of the scene and is meant to blend in with the rest of the scene.
Perspectives

perspective in film is how we as the audience are put into the film as the character and we're able to tell what they're seeing and how they're feeling based on the way the scene in composed.

Crime thriller conventions
One stylistic code that can be noticed throughout the thriller is suspenseful music and sound effects, in Se7en we see loads of examples of this, as the two the detectives uncover more and more clues about the chain of mudures replicated according to the seven deadly sins, again linking to the plot we hear the music become more suspenseful the more the detectives catch up with the killer finding his clues.
Claude Levi Strauss
& Binary opposition
Levi Strauss, a French anthropologist in the 1900s, proposed a theory of binary opposites which says that the majority of narratives in media forms such as books and film contain opposing main characters. These binary opposites help to thicken the plot and further the narrative; and introduce contrast.
Another typical stylistic code that is used in a thriller is fast paced editing, this conveys the story's tension and intensity. In Se7en we see it happen when the 2 detectives look around the scene of the crime, this puts the audience in the point of view of the detectives as we find the clues at the same time as they do in the plot and it allows us to see their reaction and body language.
Something else that can easily be noticed in thrillers is the low level lighting effect, this creates a dramatic effect that builds up to a significant scene in the film. It does this because the low lighting tells the audience that something dark is about to happen as the low level lighting is normally linked to effects such as jump scares, a discovery by a character or something significant in the story. For example we see this in se7en when the young detective discovers a key clue that helps them find out the murders pattern in the killings.
First meeting an original ideas
Here we talked about the different thing we needed to think about when putting together our thriller film from the props to the story line and the characters. This was only a rough brainstorm of what we wanted to do using what we looked at in lessons and for homework as inspiration. For instance we used Se7en as out main inspiration for this movie choosing the sub genre of crime thriller for our movie having a killer - detective rivalry as a story line.
